About Me

In 2001 David Bunton compiled THE OSHEAL RECORD, THE COLONIAL HISTORY OF THE O’SHEAL FAMILY, an extensive compilation of private, public sources including the chronology of the court records (and land, etc) of my immigrant ancestor David Osheal, born 1690 bapt. St Martins in the Fields, Middlesex, England, the son of John O’Sheal and Alice Apsley. David was a merchant and attorney in Nansemond County, Va and NC. His descendants went to Granville Co, NC, Spartanburg Co, SC, Georgia, Arkansas, etc. My book has undergone expansion and update to include many fascinating facts on the progenitors of the O’Shields family in America. I am also the administrator for several DNA projects for the O’Shields and O’Sheal family, and have coordinated with O’Shields researchers across the US to help them find their ancestry. I am always delighted to assist others with their O’Shields or allied family ancestry and will try to help in discovery of their ancient O’Sheal O’Shields ancestry. I have presented case studies pertaining to early O’Shields & allied families at several genealogical classes I have taught and it has encouraged other researchers from different lineages and families other than ours, to become interested in DNA as a useful genealogical tool. I want to thank the many O'Shields researchers I have coordinated with for being proud of your family---your participation in the DNA study as well as documented research has benefitted others and inspired them to confirm their family lineages.
