 | If you believe you may be related to me (or my line), please contact me via email. Put a surname of mutual interest in the subject line.
Please DO NOT just download other peoples gedcoms and add them to your gedcom. That is NOT genealogy research !!
There are a lot of errors, mistakes & assumptions on the internet sites & posts. Once one person copies one, it spreads on & on. Soon hundreds of people have the same mistake, with no way to correct it,even if the original person ever realizes it. Many published books, even old books, have errors; just like the web sites.
The common denominator on these errors is no one ever cites a source. I prefer to have the original scan for whatever document was used. I will settle for a transcription of the document. Things like "one world tree" are not any kind of a source at all. It is just someone elses gedcom. I met a person online that had 30,000 names in her gedcom. She had never done any research at all. She told me "we must be related because I'm in her tree". She had never seen a census nor ordered a death cert. Just goes around adding other peoples gedcoms to hers, growing & growing........
Thank you,
C
